Welcome

We are suffering from the lack of rain and watering in the vegetable garden. Currently picking salad crops, beetroot, chard, broad beans, carrots, currants and tomatoes. The sweet peas need picking every other day as do the courgettes.

The cistus lining the path by the Greenhouse is the evergreen Cistus Monspeliensis. This originated as a single plant from Beth Chatto Gardens and has been propagated by cuttings.

The plants lining the path to the Bog Garden and at the edge of the Moat are Dierma Blacbird or Angels Fishing rods. They have been grown from seed.

Amongst the white Arum lilies or Zantedschia are some Green Goddess- white edged with green. Not spectacular and rather understated but interesting nonetheless. The plant with spear shaped leaves in the Bog Garden is Thalia Dealbata

Hosta and Hemerocallis line the path beside the stream and have been propagated by lifting and dividing.

The flowers in the borders on the West Lawn are in full sun. The geranium in the gravel garden are about to be cut down in the hope of a second flush and the Californian poppies are running to seed but Verbena Bonariensis are loving the heat.

The yellow trumpet like flowers in the little courtyard at the back of the Hall are Datura or Angels Trumpets.

Interesting how many “Angels” we have growing here?

The lovely white poppy-like flower by the urns are Romneya.

The swans still have 7 cygnets, the house martins are nesting under the eaves of the roof and we have daily visits from 2 Heron. The sheep have been shorn and a blackbird seems to have a new nest by the potting shed hoping for a second brood.
