For two weeks in January every year the gardener ties in and prunes the Nut Walk to maintain its shape. At first it is carpeted by aconites and snowdrops but as its leaves unfurl it turns into a cool dark tunnel where it is said that the ladies of the house would walk to avoid the tanning rays of the sun.
